Scorching African heat is returning
The Meteorological Service has issued a warning for sudden downpours and hot weather. While many cities will experience a brief cooling period, a new heatwave from Africa will take hold of most of the country starting this weekend. The air in the Marmara region, which cooled down today, will become stifling once again.
The General Directorate of Meteorology announced that while it expects partly and slightly cloudy weather across the country for Thursday, July 18, it anticipates local, sudden downpours and thunderstorms, particularly in the interior parts of the Mediterranean and Western Black Sea regions, as well as in the vicinity of Ankara, Çankırı, Eskişehir, Kırıkkale, Bilecik, Kütahya, Konya, Karaman, Afyonkarahisar, Denizli, Kastamonu, Kars, Ardahan, and Ağrı.
Citizens have been urged to take precautions, as the sudden rainfall could lead to flash floods and water damage.
THERE IS A COOLING IN MARMARA TODAY, BUT IT WILL BE SHORT-LIVED
The heatwave arriving from Africa is losing its effect in the Marmara Region as of today. Temperatures in Istanbul are expected to drop to around 29 degrees. However, this cool air will not last very long. Meteorological experts pointed out that temperatures will rise again starting from the weekend and that a long-lasting heatwave will be effective across the country.
TEMPERATURES WILL RISE BY 4 DEGREES IN EASTERN REGIONS
Air temperatures across the country are still hovering above seasonal norms. While temperatures in Marmara are decreasing slightly today, an increase of 2 to 4 degrees is expected in the eastern regions. The felt temperatures will reach quite high values, especially in some parts of Central Anatolia and Southeastern Anatolia.
SCORCHING AFRICAN HEAT IS RETURNING
With the weekend, a new heatwave will reach Turkey from Africa. This wave is expected to be longer-lasting and more effective than previous heatwaves. The scorching heat will increase its effect in the coastal parts of the Aegean, Mediterranean, and Southeastern Anatolia. In some regions, temperatures are projected to exceed 40 degrees.
