Second appeal against Kepez Mayor Kocagöz's detention rejected

The second appeal filed against the detention of Kepez Mayor Mesut Kocagöz, who was arrested as part of the investigation into the cable car accident in Antalya, has been rejected.

The lawyer for Kocagöz, who was arrested in connection with the accident that occurred at the Tünektepe Cable Car Facilities in the Sarısu area of the Konyaaltı district, filed an appeal with the Antalya Chief Public Prosecutor's Office.

The court, which evaluated the appeal for Kocagöz and the other 4 detained suspects, did not accept the request.

WHAT HAPPENED?

In the accident that occurred on April 12 at the cable car facility, which was crowded due to the Ramadan Feast holiday, 1 person lost their life after falling from a cabin that broke apart, and 7 people were injured. 174 people who remained suspended in the air in 24 cabins after the system stopped were rescued after 22.5 hours of work.

Of the 14 suspects detained regarding the accident, 5 people, including Kepez Mayor Mesut Kocagöz, who is a former General Manager of ANET, were arrested.

In the indictment prepared against 12 suspects, 5 of whom are in custody including Kepez Mayor Mesut Kocagöz, it was requested that they be sentenced to up to 27 years in prison each for the crimes of "causing death and injury by negligence" and "endangering traffic safety by negligence."

The first appeal against Kocagöz's detention was also rejected on April 18.
