Selçuk Tengioğlu, who attacked Özgür Özel, has been arrested

Selçuk Tengioğlu, who assaulted Republican People's Party (CHP) Chairman Özgür Özel, was referred to the duty magistrate judge with a request for his arrest on charges of intentional injury.

A memorial service was held at the Atatürk Cultural Center (AKM) on Sunday for Sırrı Süreyya Önder, who passed away on May 3. CHP leader Özgür Özel, who attended the ceremony, was attacked at close range by Selçuk Tengioğlu as he was leaving. Selçuk Tengioğlu, who was taken into custody following the attack, was referred to the court with a request for arrest.

The prosecutor's office included the following statements in the referral of Tengioğlu to the court:

"The suspect, who was apprehended and taken into custody regarding the assault on Republican People's Party Chairman Özgür Özel, has been referred to the duty magistrate judge with a request for his arrest on charges of intentional injury due to the public duty performed by the individual, following his statement to our Chief Public Prosecutor's Office."

The court decided to arrest the suspect.
