Sentence handed down to defendant who injured Piiz band member

The hearing at the Ankara 65th Criminal Court of First Instance was attended by the defendant Bilge Kaan Korkmaz, the complainants Mehmet Dudarık and Oğuzhan Oğuz, and the lawyers for both parties.

The presiding judge stated that the opinion on the merits had been announced in the previous session and gave the defendant the floor to make his final defense.

Defendant Korkmaz stated that he reiterated his previous defenses and expressed regret for the incident.

Complainant Dudarık requested that the defendant be punished.

The defendant's lawyer, who also took the floor, claimed that his client had committed the act under unjust provocation and requested his acquittal.

Announcing the verdict after the statements, the presiding judge stated that defendant Korkmaz's actions against complainants Dudarık and Oğuz constituted the crime of "intentional injury" and announced that the defendant was sentenced to 4 years, 3 months, and 22 days in prison.

WHAT HAPPENED?

According to the indictment, on December 15, 2022, defendant Bilge Kaan Korkmaz, who came to the entertainment venue where the band Piiz was performing with his friends, started an argument after the band's drummer, Mehmet Dudarık, accidentally stepped on his friend's foot.

Despite Dudarık's apology, Korkmaz assaulted Dudarık and his friend Oğuzhan Oğuz in the garden of the entertainment center following a verbal altercation between the parties.

The defendant was tried for "intentional injury resulting in bone fracture" against Oğuzhan Oğuz, and for "intentional injury resulting in bone fracture and posing a life-threatening danger" against complainant Mehmet Dudarık.
