Serious allegation against the Israeli government: Former Defense Minister documented Hamas's operation
It has been alleged that a document was presented to the Israeli government in 2016 warning that Hamas could launch an attack, but that it was not taken seriously at the time.
The Israeli newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth, in a report published on the subject, drew attention to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's statements since the beginning of the war, in which he claimed he "was unaware that the situation in Gaza had reached a dangerous level."
The report stated that in a detailed document prepared by former Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman on December 21, 2016, it was noted that "Hamas planned to move the conflict into Israeli territory in the future, including the seizure of Jewish settlements and the taking of hostages, but that this was not taken seriously by any political or security official."
'DETAILED ACCOUNT'
The report stated that the document "described in detail Hamas's intentions," including the infiltration of professional forces into Israeli territory, the seizure of settlements around Gaza, and the taking of hostages.
In the document, which was classified as "top secret," it was noted that the main goal was "the destruction of Israel and the liberation of all Palestinian territories by the year 2022."
The report, which noted that the document predicted consequences worse than those of the Yom Kippur War in October 1973, alleged that none of the recipients of the warning, including Prime Minister Netanyahu and former Chief of General Staff Gadi Eisenkot, took this scenario as seriously as it deserved.
The Israeli government has not yet made a statement regarding the matter.
