Shocking claim in Can Polat murder: Was the target actually Engin Polat?

The armed attack that occurred during Dilan and Engin Polat's vacation in Alaçatı resulted in one death. 37-year-old Can Polat, who served as the couple's bodyguard and was identified as Engin Polat's cousin, was shot in front of the hotel where they were staying.

According to the information obtained, the attack took place yesterday around 14:00. Can Polat, who went outside to load the family's belongings into the vehicle as they prepared to leave the hotel after their vacation, became the target of the armed assailant.

ALLEGEDLY WAITED FOR HOURS

According to information provided by eyewitnesses and hotel staff, it is alleged that the suspect had been in the area since the morning hours and had been tracking the family.

Hotel manager Serhat Yılmazel, who witnessed the attack, described the events as follows:

"As we observed from the camera footage, the individual approaches and attempts to fire, but I believe the weapon jammed at first. While Mr. Can Polat was looking at him, the individual came back and fired 2-3 shots. He targeted Mr. Can directly."

COULD NOT BE SAVED DESPITE INTERVENTIONS

Can Polat, who took refuge in the hotel while wounded following the attack, received initial intervention from people in the vicinity. Polat, who was taken to the hospital, lost his life despite all efforts by the doctors.

SUSPECT TAKEN INTO CUSTODY SHORTLY AFTER

The İzmir Provincial Police Department teams, who launched an investigation following the incident, apprehended the fleeing suspect along with the weapon believed to be the one used in the crime.

In a statement made by the İzmir Governor's Office, it was stated, "The suspect of the incident, S.A., born in 2003, was apprehended and taken into custody shortly after, along with the weapon believed to have been used in the crime. The investigation into the incident is being conducted in a multi-faceted and meticulous manner."

NEW ALLEGATIONS IN THE INVESTIGATION

Some allegations that have surfaced in the public domain within the scope of the murder investigation have also come to the fore. According to information shared by journalist Seyhan Avşar, it is claimed that the suspect in custody stated that he received the order for the act from a criminal organization known in the public as the "Daltonlar".

According to the allegations, the suspect stated that the primary target was Engin Polat, but he could not reach him due to heavy security measures, and therefore turned to a relative of the family.

Furthermore, while it is alleged that the criminal organization obtained the family's location information through Dilan Polat's social media posts, it is also claimed that Engin Polat said in his initial statement that they had been receiving threats for a long time.

STARTED A LIVE BROADCAST AND CALLED FOR AN AMBULANCE

Following the attack, Dilan Polat shared a video on her social media account in which she described what happened.

Speaking in tears in the video, Polat said, "Please, police, ambulance here... They shot Can Polat. My God, our lives have become a dungeon now. Please, we are all stuck in the room."

It was later observed that the post in question had been removed from her account.
