Shocking remarks at the People's Alliance meeting! AKP district chair criticizes law passed by his own party

CRITICISM OF THE METROPOLITAN MUNICIPALITY LAW

Speaking at the meeting, AKP Bergama District Chair Hasan Şahin voiced criticisms regarding the Metropolitan Municipality Law, which was enacted during his party's time in power. Stating that the law has led to excessive centralization in governance, Şahin expressed that the implementation has caused various problems on the ground.

According to the report in Cumhuriyet, Şahin stated, "Even though my own party passed the metropolitan law, and even though I was the first to take a hit from it in the 2014 elections, I do not look upon it very favorably. We are not saying that we did everything perfectly either. There should be changes to the metropolitan law; I am very much against such a centralist administration, that is, the concentration of all power in one place. Why? Because as that power grows, influencing it becomes... We all see the difficulties we experience in our people here trying to take their problems there."

AIRPORT DEBATES

Touching upon the airport debates that emerged following Bergama's demand to become a province, Şahin drew attention to airports in some provinces that are currently idle.

Şahin said, "Airports in many provinces are not working. I mean, these are points where our state's money is being wasted. That money is the people's money, all of our money; money should not be spent in vain."
