“Sibergöz-20” operations in 20 provinces
Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya announced that 64 people were apprehended in simultaneous “Sibergöz-20” operations conducted across 20 provinces targeting “qualified fraud” committed in the virtual environment via the internet.
Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya stated in a post on his social media account that 64 suspects were apprehended in “Sibergöz-20” operations conducted in 20 provinces targeting “qualified fraud” in the virtual environment.
The operations were carried out simultaneously in Istanbul, Mersin, Adana, Gaziantep, Kırşehir, Sinop, Adıyaman, Tekirdağ, Bursa, Şanlıurfa, Aydın, Diyarbakır, Eskişehir, Hakkari, İzmir, Karabük, Samsun, Kocaeli, and Antalya, with the center in Erzurum, as a result of work conducted by the Erzurum Cybercrime Branch Directorate under the coordination of the General Directorate of Security's Cybercrime Combat Department.
It was determined that the 64 suspects obtained illicit gains by requesting money under the guise of rental fees, insurance premiums, and deposits from citizens they contacted through phishing sites they created using the names of car rental and insurance companies. Unlicensed pistols, a large amount of foreign currency, Turkish lira, gold, and numerous digital materials seized during the operations were confiscated.
