Ahead of the NATO Leaders' Summit to be held in Ankara on July 7-8, simultaneous detention operations were carried out in many provinces in the morning hours. A large number of people, including journalists, lawyers, academics, and writers, were detained in the operations.

JOURNALIST BUSE SÖĞÜTLÜ DETAINED

One of the individuals detained was T24 foreign news editor Buse Söğütlü. It was learned that Söğütlü was detained during a police raid on her family's home in the morning hours.

Söğütlü's lawyer, Erman Öztürk, stated that a 24-hour restriction on lawyer-client meetings had been imposed on his client and that they had not yet been able to obtain official information regarding the reason for the detention.

Stating that similar operations were carried out in approximately 10 provinces, Öztürk said, "We believe the detentions are related to the NATO meeting, but we do not have clear information yet."

PROGRESSIVE LAWYERS ASSOCIATION (ÇHD) ISTANBUL BRANCH PRESIDENT EZGİ ÖNALAN ALSO DETAINED

Among those detained within the scope of the operation was Lawyer Ezgi Önalan, the Istanbul Branch President of the Progressive Lawyers Association (ÇHD), who is also one of Buse Söğütlü's lawyers.

The ÇHD announced that Önalan was detained during a police operation conducted at her home in the early hours of the morning. In the association's statement, the phrase "End the political operations that promise a thornless rose garden to NATO" was used.

ODATV EDITOR ALSO DETAINED

Among the names detained in the operations is Odatv editor Ceren Erdoğdu. According to information provided by Odatv, police teams went to Erdoğdu's home in the morning hours and carried out the detention procedure.

ACADEMIC AND WRITER ALSO DETAINED

Academic Sibel Özbudun also announced in a post on her social media account that she had been detained along with writer Temel Demirer.

No detailed statement has yet been made by official authorities regarding the scope of the operations carried out in different provinces in the morning hours and the reasons for the detentions.
