Minister of Health Kemal Memişoğlu has issued instructions to increase inspections in the fight against tobacco. General Director of Public Health Muhammed Emin Demirkol emphasized in his statement that a new era has begun in the fight against smoking.

The Ministry plans to increase the number of 1,100 certified physicians working in 565 smoking cessation clinics to expand smoking cessation services. Furthermore, it was announced that clinics in Bolu and Rize will soon be operational and that certification efforts will be completed.

Demirkol stated, "We aim to make this service more effective and widespread. By providing training to volunteer family physicians, we will enable them to offer smoking cessation support."

HOW WILL THE INSPECTIONS BE CONDUCTED?

Inspections will be carried out under the coordination of the General Directorate of Public Health. Authorized health personnel and law enforcement officers will monitor the extent to which the smoking ban is being implemented through reports and random checks.

Demirkol explained, "Cross-inspections refer to officials from different provinces conducting regular and report-based checks. Additionally, teams sent from one district to another will ensure that the ban is fully implemented."

DEMANDS INCREASED INSPECTIONS

Complaints received via CİMER and SABİM, as well as requests from the Green Detector (Yeşil Dedektör) application, highlighted the importance of stricter inspections in the fight against tobacco. Demirkol said, "Our data shows that cross-inspections are more effective. We know that passive smoking is as harmful as active smoking, and we will make no compromises on this issue."

Smoking leads to serious health problems such as lung cancer and other respiratory diseases. Demirkol stated, "We are aware of the harm smoking causes to both individuals and the environment, and we will continue our inspections without compromise."
