Snowfall affecting various districts of Istanbul is intensifying

Following days of heavy snow warnings from the Meteorological Service, snowfall has become effective in different parts of Istanbul. While snow depth has increased in some high-altitude parts of the city, the white cover that formed in a short time caused disruptions in traffic.

According to radar data, snow clouds continue to move over the city, and the precipitation is expected to strengthen and continue in different districts and neighborhoods towards noon.

This morning, the snowfall made its effect felt especially in Sarıyer and Arnavutköy on the European Side. Some vehicles skidded on Büyükdere Street in Sarıyer, forcing drivers to proceed slowly and cautiously. On the Sarıyer section of the Northern Marmara Motorway, some drivers pulled their vehicles to the side of the road and began waiting after getting stuck. Snow clearing and salting operations are continuing uninterruptedly by municipal teams in the region.

Snowfall is also making life difficult on the Anatolian Side. With the increasing effect of the snow in the Beykoz, Ümraniye, and Çekmeköy districts, traffic congestion has occurred on some transport routes. While local citizens helped drivers stuck on ramps in Beykoz, it was noted that the snow depth reached approximately 10 centimeters in high areas. Additionally, it was reported that some accidents involving property damage occurred in the city.

Drivers are being warned to be careful due to reduced visibility around the Yavuz Sultan Selim Bridge. Municipal teams are continuing salting operations on main roads and connecting lines.

It is stated that caution should be exercised as the snowfall, which is gradually increasing in intensity across Istanbul, is expected to continue throughout the day and temperatures are expected to drop further as the day progresses.
