Some metro stations in Istanbul closed due to Pope's visit
Pope Leo XIV's Istanbul program continues today amid tight security measures and transportation restrictions. As part of the visit, some roads have been closed to traffic, and Metro Istanbul has announced that four stations on the line have been temporarily closed to service.
Following the historic mass he attended in Iznik yesterday, Pope Leo XIV continued his contacts in Istanbul today. Security measures were increased due to the Pope's presence in the city as he visited the Blue Mosque as part of his program; temporary restrictions were placed on vehicle traffic on certain routes.
Transportation regulations were not limited to roads alone. According to the information provided by Metro Istanbul, the following statement was made: "In accordance with the decision taken by the Istanbul Governor's Office, as of 11:00 today and until further notice, the Ayvansaray, Balat, Fener, and Cibali stations on our T5 Eminönü-Alibeyköy Tram Line will be closed to service. Our vehicles will continue their journeys without stopping at these stations."
