Soylu says 'I have left politics in my mind,' continues to receive salary
Former Interior Minister Süleyman Soylu, who previously attempted to prevent a journalist from filming by asking, "Brother, did you get permission?" when asked about the Gülistan Doku investigation before an AKP Group Meeting, emphasized that the meeting was President Erdoğan's platform, stating, "I do not answer questions there; if asked outside, I would be happy to answer." Soylu, who said, "I have left politics in my mind," has faced scrutiny regarding his parliamentary and pension salaries.
AKP Istanbul Deputy Süleyman Soylu made statements following the investigation launched into the Gülistan Doku case, which went missing during his tenure as Minister of Interior.
After allegations surfaced in the testimony of Tuncay Sonel, the Tunceli Governor at the time who was arrested as part of the investigation, claiming that Soylu was responsible for the work carried out, Soylu participated in a television program and denied the accusations. Regarding the Doku file, he said, "It should be investigated to the end so that consciences can be at ease."
"I GO TO PARLIAMENT AS MUCH AS I CAN, I AM NOT A REGULAR"
Stating that he does not actively participate in parliamentary work, Soylu said, "I go to Parliament as much as I can, but it cannot be said that I attend very often. I go once a week. I am not a regular at Parliament because I am waiting for the end of my term. When my term ends, that will be the end of it."
"I HAVE LEFT POLITICS IN MY MIND"
Soylu, who said, "I have left politics in my mind," faced criticism on social media regarding his salary. It is noted that Soylu, who is still an AKP Istanbul Deputy, receives a parliamentary salary of approximately 273 thousand TL, and also earns an additional income of approximately 177 thousand TL due to his status as a retired deputy. His total monthly income, which approaches 450 thousand TL, has become a subject of public debate.
