Message from Parliament Speaker Kurtulmuş on Russia-Ukraine tension

Parliament Speaker Numan Kurtulmuş continues his official contacts in Moscow, the capital of Russia. Kurtulmuş met with members of the Russian-Turkish Businessmen Association, hosted by Turkey's Ambassador to Moscow, Tanju Bilgiç.

Stating that a significant level of relationship has been established between Turkey and Russia at the level of a strategic partnership, Kurtulmuş said, "Turkey-Russia relations are proceeding well despite all these periodic and structural difficulties; we are continuing on our path by overcoming problems.

Historically and culturally, Russia and Turkey have brought their relations to this day as two close neighbors and two allies," he said.

"ONE OF TURKEY'S FUNDAMENTAL PERSPECTIVES IS TO ENSURE PEACE AND STABILITY"

Pointing out that the world is at the beginning of a process entering a new era, Kurtulmuş said that the establishment of a multipolar world is at the forefront of this new era. Stating that it is inevitable for many new collaborations and new formations to emerge on a global and regional scale, Kurtulmuş said, "As Turkey, we are following a strategy of rebuilding the coming period with the wisdom that this multipolarity requires, and acting within the principle of win-win with countries in many parts of the world by prioritizing our own national interests. Furthermore, one of Turkey's most fundamental perspectives regarding the coming period is to ensure peace and stability; and to ensure development through peace and stability. In this framework, Turkey is acting seriously in terms of steps that will ensure peace on both a regional and global scale," he said.

Emphasizing that the most concrete example of this is that Turkey is almost the only country that has been able to talk to both countries since the beginning of the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine and has made it possible to exchange mutual ideas at the negotiating table with both, Kurtulmuş said, "To say this as well, peace between the two countries at the Dolmabahçe talks was almost down to a signature. However, because some countries did not want the war to end, unfortunately, this conflict, tension, crisis—whatever you call it—continues today. It seems it will continue for a while longer. Therefore, as Turkey, just as we do in all regional tensions, we are trying to provide every kind of mediation possible to ensure a fair and lasting peace as soon as possible in this tension between Russia and Ukraine."

"ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT PROBLEMS IS THE INADEQUACY OF THE WORLD SYSTEM"

Kurtulmuş stated that one of the most important problems faced in the world is "the inadequacy, helplessness, and dysfunctionality of the world system in every field." Pointing to the attacks carried out by Israel in Palestinian territories, especially in Gaza, Kurtulmuş emphasized that the crimes against humanity committed by Netanyahu and his gang, which have long since exceeded the dimensions of genocide, are one of the most fundamental factors forcing the world to build a new era as soon as possible.

"A NEW GLOBAL FINANCIAL-ECONOMIC SYSTEM WILL BEGIN TO BE PUT FORWARD"

Stating that the unilateral embargo and various sanction attempts carried out against Russia and its institutions due to the Russia-Ukraine crisis have actually left the international financial system facing some structural difficulties, Kurtulmuş said, "Even this shows us that it is not possible for the global financial system currently existing in the world to continue in this form. Efforts regarding the search for a new global financial-economic system will soon begin to be put forward much more clearly in the world, and political and even scientific discussions on this subject will begin to be deepened much more," he said.

Expressing that Turkey-Russia relations are deep-rooted, historical, and exist in practice in every field, Kurtulmuş emphasized that there are sustainable and developable relations with Russia in every area. After his speech, Kurtulmuş chatted with the businessmen for a while.
