Specialist sergeant beaten over harassment allegations arrested in Şırnak

The incident occurred on the evening of April 12 on Orman Street in the Dicle neighborhood of the city center.

According to allegations, the specialist sergeant, identified as Z.Ç., who was reportedly intoxicated, approached a married woman he did not know from behind and grabbed her. The woman, who was subjected to the harassment, shouted for help from those nearby.

People who gathered at the scene beat Z.Ç., leaving him injured. Police teams patrolling the area intervened in the incident and rescued Z.Ç. from the crowd. While 4 suspects were detained in connection with the incident, Z.Ç., who was taken to the hospital by medical teams, was detained following his treatment as part of an investigation conducted by the Şırnak Chief Public Prosecutor's Office. It was stated that Z.Ç. has been suspended from duty.

ŞIRNAK BAR ASSOCIATION: ARRESTED FOR SEXUAL ASSAULT

In a written statement issued by the Şırnak Bar Association, it was stated that specialist sergeant Z.Ç. was arrested by the Şırnak Criminal Court of Peace on charges of sexual assault. The statement read: "Footage was reflected in the press showing that an intoxicated individual named Z.Ç., who serves as a specialist sergeant in the center of Şırnak province, was beaten following allegations that he committed a sexual assault against one of our citizens on 12.04.2024. The suspect Z.Ç., who is accused of sexual assault and against whom judicial and administrative investigations are ongoing and for whom suspension and detention orders had been issued, could not have his statement taken due to his ongoing medical treatment. Following his statement taken by the Şırnak Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, the suspect was referred to the court with a request for arrest, and a decision for his arrest on charges of sexual assault was issued by the Şırnak Criminal Court of Peace."
