Statement from DEM Party regarding the fire between Diyarbakır and Mardin

Five people lost their lives and 44 others were injured, 10 of them seriously, in a stubble fire that occurred in the Çınar district of Diyarbakır and the Mazıdağı district of Mardin.

Following the disaster, Minister of Justice Yılmaz Tunç announced that an investigation into the fire had been launched by the Çınar Chief Public Prosecutor's Office.

The Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) also issued a written statement regarding the fire.

"This tragedy has once again shown that the state and the government are not by the side of the people in any disaster or tragedy that occurs," the statement read, including the following remarks:

"We are healing the wounds of the fire tragedy together with our people. Our pain is great; our condolences to our people. We wish a speedy recovery to our injured. Against this tragedy, where the government was late to intervene and remained insufficient, all our regional municipalities, especially in Diyarbakır, Mardin, and Van, mobilized by intervening in the fire and delivering aid to the public.

Our Co-Mayors, our Members of Parliament, and the Co-Chairs of our constituent party DBP, Çiğdem Kılıçgün Uçar and Keskin Bayındır, are both sharing the pain with the people in the villages where the tragedy occurred and continuing to heal the wounds.

This tragedy has once again shown that the state and the government are not by the side of the people in any disaster or tragedy that occurs. They are not there during earthquakes, they are not there during fires, and they are not there during floods. However, we have the strength to overcome all kinds of disasters together with our people!"

WHAT HAPPENED?

The fire broke out at around 22:15 yesterday in the rural Köksalan neighborhood of the Çınar district. The flames spread to the surrounding Bağacık, Ağaçsever, and Yazçiçeği neighborhoods due to the wind.

Upon notification, numerous fire, health, UMKE, and gendarmerie teams were dispatched to the region. While some of the injured were taken to Çınar State Hospital, those in serious condition were transferred to hospitals in the city.

The fire was brought under control by the teams after 4 hours of work. Cooling efforts in the region continued until the morning hours with the help of fire department teams and a helicopter belonging to the Provincial Gendarmerie Command. Following the completion of the cooling efforts, an investigation was launched by the Diyarbakır Chief Public Prosecutor's Office.

While the cause of the fire is being investigated, the effects of the fire became clearly visible with the first light of the morning.
