Statement from Mahmut Arıkan on the 'Gülistan Doku' murder: 'This situation is Turkey's new Susurluk'

Making a statement regarding the Gülistan Doku investigation, Saadet Party Chairman Mahmut Arıkan said, “When did you establish a system to protect those who begrudge even the body of our murdered daughter to her family? This situation is Turkey's new Susurluk.”

Saadet Party Chairman Mahmut Arıkan made remarks regarding the Gülistan Doku investigation during his speech at the New Way Party's group meeting.

Reminding the public of Gülistan Doku, Rabia Naz, and Rojin Kabaiş, Arıkan said, “Today, a justice crisis too severe to be covered up by fabrications prevails in the streets and courthouse corridors of Turkey.”

Arıkan continued, saying, “On the path you set out on by claiming you would hold people accountable for a lamb snatched by a wolf on the banks of the Tigris, when did you establish a system to protect those who begrudge even the body of our daughter, murdered on the banks of the Uzunçayır, to her family?” He added: “This situation is Turkey's new Susurluk. The network of dirty relationships that emerged from under that truck years ago is now showing itself in the corridors of the state. Back then, criminals were looking for a hole to hide in; today, they are trying to destroy the evidence of their crimes using the power and resources of the state itself. This incident is the greatest evidence-tampering operation in the history of world crime.”

‘ARE YOU NOT ASHAMED TO DRAW POLITICAL LINES EVEN AT A FUNERAL PRAYER?’

In his speech, Arıkan also touched upon the school attacks in Urfa and Maraş. Arıkan stated, “Unfortunately, today we are faced with a system that cannot protect its children from violence, gangs, and drugs. They come out and say, ‘Why did these children turn out this way?’ I ask the government: what have you been sowing for 24 years that you expect to reap? These incidents are not matters that can be brushed aside by saying, ‘We have taken security measures.’”

Emphasizing the funeral of Yusuf Tarık Gül, who lost his life in the attack in Maraş, Arıkan said, “Yusuf’s name was written in parentheses on the list. His photo was not released to the media, and ministers did not attend the funeral prayer. Do you know the reason for all of this? Because our child’s father was a police officer dismissed by decree (KHK). Now I want to ask: have you no shame in drawing political lines even at funeral prayers held for children in this country?”
