Statement on 'teacher appointments' from Minister of National Education Tekin. He gave a date
Minister of National Education Yusuf Tekin stated regarding teacher appointments, "We will announce the appointment numbers together with our Minister of Treasury and Finance within the coming week."
Tekin answered journalists' questions at the reception held in the Parliament Ceremony Hall for the 23rd of April National Sovereignty and Children's Day and the 104th anniversary of the opening of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM).
Answering a question regarding the work being done on the curriculum, Yusuf Tekin stated that the Board of Education and Discipline has completed its preliminary reviews and that it will be put up for public review as soon as the process is finished.
Expressing that the work on the curriculum will be completed next week, Tekin noted the following:
"There are rating mechanisms used by the OECD. We compared the curriculum density in the countries that the public compares us with to our own. We tried to bring it closer to the density there. We are loading about 2 times more curriculum onto children than those countries. Firstly, we are loading more curriculum onto children, and secondly, we are providing it based on knowledge and acquisition rather than skill-based, as is the case there.
While in the countries we mentioned, it is measured whether children can turn the education they receive into daily life skills, we provide it as normal information. However, these are what are measured in the mentioned exams. When you provide both more curriculum and with a different logic, you cannot compete."
Emphasizing that they will dilute the curriculum, Yusuf Tekin said, "However, if we dilute this a bit, if we can make it suitable for our children's capacities and in a state that our teachers can complete in time, both our children will learn more comfortably, the system will relax, and our teacher colleagues will not have to struggle to catch up with the curriculum by rushing. Therefore, there is a dilution in the band of 35 percent on average."
Minister Tekin gave the answer, "We will announce the teacher appointment numbers together with our Minister of Treasury and Finance within the coming week," to another question regarding teacher appointment figures.
