Statement from Minister Uraloğlu regarding airline ticket prices: Price ceiling may rise to 4,000 TL
Responding to a parliamentary question regarding flight cancellations and ticket prices, Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu stated that the price ceiling for airline tickets could rise to 4,000 TL in August.
Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu responded to a written parliamentary question submitted by DEM Party Diyarbakır MP Serhat Eren regarding flight cancellations and ticket prices.
Stating that if the rights determined by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation are not provided to passengers, the Ministry ensures that procedures are carried out in accordance with regulations and that airlines are required to pay compensation to passengers in cases of cancellations due to technical or operational reasons, Uraloğlu noted that administrative fines are imposed on companies at the upper limit determined by the Turkish Civil Aviation Law for violations of regulations.
Minister Uraloğlu reported that as of the end of March this year, 1,413 applications regarding flight cancellations had been filed across Turkey.
Pointing out that the price ceiling application for ticket fares is carried out under the coordination of their Ministry, Uraloğlu stated the following:
"For direct domestic flights, the ticket price ceiling will be applied as 2,000 lira for 80 percent of the tickets on a flight between May 1 and July 31, 2024, and 3,250 lira for the remaining 20 percent after these tickets are sold. As of August 1, 2024, it will be applied as 2,500 lira for 80 percent of the tickets on a flight, and 4,000 lira for the remaining 20 percent after these tickets are sold."
'BY DETERMINING FLIGHT TIMES...'
Emphasizing that airline companies are commercial entities operating under free market conditions, Uraloğlu stated, "Matters such as initiating flights to airports, adding additional routes, changing flight times, and conducting flights with or without connections are under the purview of the airline companies themselves; airlines make their requests by determining their own flight times within the framework of their fleet structures, fleet availability, slot times, and the connections of the aircraft in their fleets."
Abdulkadir Uraloğlu noted that if there is a flight application, the applications are evaluated by their Ministry within the scope of the relevant legislation.
