Statement from Naci Görür regarding the earthquake in Sivas

According to information on the website of the Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD), a 4.4-magnitude tremor was recorded at 01:27 on the night connecting Friday to Saturday, with its epicenter in the Gürün district of Sivas. The earthquake, which occurred at a depth of approximately 5.33 kilometers, caused brief panic in the district.

"NOT A SOURCE OF MAJOR CONCERN"

Earthquake expert Prof. Dr. Naci Görür also evaluated the earthquake in Sivas in a post on his social media account. Görür stated, "A 4.5 magnitude earthquake in Külahlı-Gürün/Sivas. This earthquake occurred near the Yakapınar-Göksun Fault, on a relatively small fault line that approaches this fault in a NW-SE direction and perpendicularly. It is not a source of major concern, best regards."

STATEMENT FROM THE GOVERNOR'S OFFICE

Following the earthquake, the Sivas Governor's Office issued a written statement on its social media account, saying, "All teams from AFAD and our relevant institutions have been directed to conduct field surveys following the 4.4-magnitude earthquake that occurred in the Gürün district of our province. As of now, there are no reports of any negative situations. We extend our best wishes to our citizens affected by the earthquake."
