Statement from Prof. Dr. Ercan following the alarming earthquake in Çanakkale
Ercan stated that the earthquake that occurred off the coast of Gökçeada would not have any impact on the Aegean or North Marmara coasts.
A 5.2-magnitude earthquake occurred off the coast of Gökçeada, Çanakkale, and Prof. Dr. Övgün Ahmet Ercan subsequently made a statement regarding the matter.
Ercan said, "The earthquake, which is between M5.4 and M5.7 in magnitude on the extension of the North Anatolian Fault in the Akrotiri Peninsula of Thessaloniki, west of the Aegean Sea, will not affect North Marmara or our Aegean coasts. It will not trigger earthquakes there either. There is no cause for concern. Happy holidays."
The earthquake that occurred in the Aegean Sea was also felt in Turkey. No negative incidents were reported following the event.
