Statement from the Bar Association and Governor's Office on child abuse allegations in Şanlıurfa: 'No evidence of sexual abuse'

It was revealed that in the Harran district of Şanlıurfa, on January 15, a 5-year-old girl was raped and then strangled to death. İYİ Party Group Deputy Chairman and Balıkesir Deputy Turhan Çömez shared the epicrisis form prepared by Harran State Hospital regarding the incident on his social media account.

While the form stated that the 5-year-old child was raped and then strangled to death, Çömez called on the Ministries of Justice, Interior, Health, and Family regarding the incident. Çömez used the following expressions:

“A girl who is only 5 years old. She is brought to Harran State Hospital. She was strangled to death after a horrific rape. All necessary interventions are performed in the emergency room, but it is not possible to restart her heart. Everything is recorded with a detailed report. If no mistakes are made during the Forensic Medicine stage, it is still possible to reach all evidence in the most accurate way and identify the perpetrators. I am waiting for your urgent attention.''

A special team was formed within the Şanlıurfa Provincial Gendarmerie Command to clarify the incident. The team took the family's statement. It was learned that the family stated that the child was electrocuted and that she fell ill after eating çiğ köfte on the day of the incident and scratched her face and neck area. While no detention process has been carried out so far, the Şanlıurfa Governor's Office also made a statement.

GOVERNOR'S OFFICE: THE INVESTIGATION IS BEING CLOSELY FOLLOWED

In the statement made by the Governor's Office, it was said, “A six-year-old child named M.N.B., who was brought to Harran State Hospital by her family after falling ill, unfortunately lost her life. Judicial proceedings have been initiated immediately to determine the cause of death, and the investigation is being carried out meticulously. Our Governor's Office is following the matter closely.”

BAR ASSOCIATION: NO EVIDENCE OF SEXUAL ABUSE

The Şanlıurfa Bar Association Children's Rights Commission also made a statement regarding the incident and shared the concerns of the public. The commission stated, “For now, information has been obtained that no evidence of sexual abuse has been found. However, comprehensive forensic examination and analysis processes are continuing to determine the exact cause of death. We will meticulously follow all stages of the legal process.”
