Statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs regarding the prisoner exchange

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Türkiye issued a written statement regarding the comprehensive prisoner exchange operation carried out at Ankara Esenboğa Airport on August 1. The statement noted that a total of 26 individuals held in prisons across seven countries were exchanged.

According to the statement made by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the operation involved the exchange of individuals held in prisons in the USA, Germany, Poland, Slovenia, Norway, Russia, and Belarus. As part of the exchange, a total of seven aircraft—two from the USA and one each from the other countries—were used to distribute the individuals brought to Türkiye. Of these individuals, 10 hostages, including two children, were transferred to Russia, 13 hostages to Germany, and three hostages to the USA.

The statement indicated that all security measures, logistical planning, and requirements from the beginning of the negotiations were managed by the National Intelligence Organization (MİT). It was emphasized that Türkiye will continue to contribute to the maintenance of international peace and stability.

The following statements were included in the Ministry's announcement:

"Today (August 1), the most comprehensive exchange operation of recent times, involving the mutual transfer of a total of 26 individuals held in prisons across seven different countries (USA, Germany, Poland, Slovenia, Norway, Russia, and Belarus), was carried out in Ankara.

Within the scope of the exchange operation; of the individuals transferred to Türkiye via a total of seven aircraft—two from the USA and one each from Germany, Poland, Slovenia, Norway, and Russia—10 hostages, including two children, were transferred to Russia, 13 hostages to Germany, and three hostages to the USA.

From the very beginning of the negotiation process until the final moment the exchanges were carried out, all security measures, logistical planning, and requirements for the exchange activity were managed by the National Intelligence Organization.

Türkiye will continue to provide every kind of contribution to ensure peace and stability in the international arena."
