Statement from the Ministry of National Defense: Allegations that a lieutenant 'tore up an Atatürk photograph' on November 10

Istanbul Tuzla Infantry School, CHP Çanakkale Deputy Özgür Ceylan had submitted a parliamentary question regarding a lieutenant who was alleged to have "refused to wear an Atatürk pin and tore up a photograph" on November 10.

In the parliamentary question submitted for Minister of National Defense Yaşar Güler to answer, Ceylan stated the following:

"Information has been reflected in the public domain that in recent days on social media platforms, a group of lieutenants at the Tuzla Infantry School Command refused to wear Atatürk pins on their lapels during the November 10 Atatürk Commemoration ceremony, that one of the lieutenants tore up an Atatürk picture and threw it on the ground, that a scuffle broke out between them and another group of lieutenants who reacted to this, that as the scuffle grew, gendarmerie and police were involved from the outside, and that an administrative investigation has been launched regarding the matter"

Regarding the allegations, Ministry of National Defense sources described them as a "clear example of disinformation" and stated that judicial and administrative processes have been initiated regarding the matter.
