Statement from Yerlikaya regarding the scandalous footage in Ankara! He drew attention to the new law

The incident, which occurred around 1:05 PM on the Konya Road in the direction of AŞTİ in Ankara, where a wedding convoy did not allow an ambulance to pass, caused a major stir on social media. Following the shared footage, police teams took action and initiated proceedings against the drivers involved in the convoy.

During the investigations, a total of 49 thousand 810 TL in administrative fines were issued to the drivers for various violations such as "driving without a license," "lack of vehicle inspection," "intentionally slowing down and obstructing traffic," and "disrespectful driving." Additionally, three vehicles in the convoy were banned from traffic.

WARNING AND NEW REGULATION MESSAGE FROM MINISTER YERLIKAYA

Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya made a statement regarding the incident on his social media account. Yerlikaya stated that they have prepared a new and deterrent draft law to ensure that similar situations do not happen again.

According to the new regulation, drivers who block bridges, tunnels, viaducts, and highways for reasons such as military send-offs or weddings will be fined 180 thousand TL. Furthermore, these drivers' licenses will be revoked for 120 days, and their vehicles will be banned from traffic for the same period.

Minister Yerlikaya included the following statements in his post:

"ACTION TAKEN - WEDDING CONVOY

Yesterday, a post was shared on social media regarding a “wedding convoy that did not yield to an ambulance” on the Konya Road in the direction of AŞTİ in Ankara.

Following the work carried out by our Traffic Inspection Branch Directorate, the vehicles that did not yield to the ambulance were identified.

A total of 49,810 TL in fines was imposed on vehicle drivers U.G., B.S., B.K., and B.T.S.

Additionally, individuals named U.G., B.K., and B.T.S. were referred to the Çankaya Martyr Mustafa Düzgün Police Station to face judicial proceedings for ‘Endangering Traffic Safety.’

3 vehicles were banned from traffic and towed to the parking lot.

NEW DRAFT LAW

We have submitted our 36-article legislative amendment proposal, which directly affects traffic safety, to the appreciation of our Grand National Assembly.

With the new draft law we have prepared, we have introduced new deterrent legal regulations to prevent such incidents. In the new draft law, vehicle drivers who block traffic by closing bridges, tunnels, viaducts, and highways for reasons such as military send-offs, weddings, etc., will be fined 180,000 TL, their licenses will be temporarily revoked for 120 days, and their vehicles will be banned from traffic for 120 days.

We must not forget the fact that ambulances carry lives and are racing against time. The ambulance we do not yield to today might be trying to rush us or someone we love very much to the hospital tomorrow."
