Statement from Yılmaz Tunç regarding the Narin Güran murder trial

A verdict has been reached in the murder trial of Narin Güran, who was made to appear as if she had gone missing in the Tavşantepe neighborhood of Diyarbakır's Bağlar district, and whose lifeless body was found 19 days later.

Uncle Salim, mother Yüksel, and brother Enes Güran were sentenced to aggravated life imprisonment for "intentional killing of a child in complicity."

Nevzat Bahtiyar, for whom the prosecutor had requested a sentence for the same crime in their final opinion, was sentenced to 4 years and 6 months in prison for the crime of "destroying, concealing, or altering evidence."

Despite the verdict being announced in the case, it has not yet been clarified who killed 8-year-old Narin and for what reason.

"THE INVESTIGATION WAS CONDUCTED TRANSPARENTLY"

Minister of Justice Yılmaz Tunç made statements regarding the Narin Güran murder trial.

Speaking to the pro-government newspaper Sabah, Tunç emphasized that the investigation into the murder was conducted meticulously, stating, "All evidence was collected throughout the investigation. Every type of evidence, such as DNA tests, camera recordings, and HTS data, was utilized. The evidence that emerged clearly revealed the crimes of the defendants."

Evaluating the court's decision, Minister Tunç said, "This decision has satisfied the conscience of our nation. We hope that after the reasoned decision is released, some debates in the public sphere will come to an end. In the reasoned decision, it will be seen more clearly which evidence supports which accusations."

Underlining that the case was concluded in two hearings without delay, Minister Tunç stated, "The impression we have received from the public is that the court conducted the process successfully, and the decision rendered without delay is a situation where justice has been served."

LATEST STATUS ON THE EVIDENCE TAMPERING INVESTIGATION

Stating that another investigation is ongoing regarding evidence tampering in the Narin Güran murder, Tunç said, "The Diyarbakır Chief Public Prosecutor's Office is conducting a separate investigation into evidence tampering. So far, 8 people have been arrested in this investigation. Once it is finished, the necessary indictment will be prepared for that matter as well."

Sharing information about the Narrowed Base Station Application, Minister Tunç said, "The narrowed study is a system that has been applied in recent years. Other evidence can be challenged, but if there are findings that this method was performed with scientific evidence and scientific methods, the court takes these findings into account. Based on HTS records, there is some scientific data aimed at determining the locations of individuals at the closest distance. This data retains its validity unless it is refuted by other evidence of equal value. Furthermore, the evidence the court relies on, such as DNA findings and testimonies, is evaluated together with all this data from the investigation phase to reach a conclusion."
