Statement on claims that Afghan refugees attacked Turks in Mersin

The Presidential Communications Directorate's Center for Combating Disinformation (DMM) has announced that the claim that Afghan refugees attacked Turkish citizens on the coast of the Mezitli district in Mersin is not true.

A statement was made on the DMM's social media account regarding the claim, which appeared in some media outlets and was shared by some social media accounts, that "Afghan refugees attacked Turkish citizens on the Viranşehir coast."

The statement included the following:

"On July 27, 2024, a fight broke out between the operator and employees of a venue on the Soli coast in the Mezitli district of Mersin and 3 German tourists. Upon notification, police teams arrived at the scene and intervened in the fight. The parties involved in the fight were taken to the Tece Martyr Fırat Palamut Police Station for necessary procedures, and an investigation has been initiated. Do not give credence to posts intended to provoke the public."
