Statement on Palestine from Presidential Communications Director Altun
Presidential Communications Director Fahrettin Altun stated, "Since October 7, Turkey has been the country that has displayed the most honorable and effective stance against Israel's genocide in every field, with both its state and its nation."
In a statement on his social media account, Altun noted that the Republic of Turkey has been a defender of the just and legitimate demands of Palestinians regarding the Palestinian issue, especially over the last 20 years and particularly since October 7.
Underlining that Turkey accepts the existence of a sovereign and independent Palestinian state with territorial integrity, based on 1967 borders and with East Jerusalem as its capital, as an indispensable condition and defends this in all international platforms in the strongest way, Altun said, "Unfortunately, in recent days, we are facing disinformation activities directed at Turkey, especially regarding trade, by certain circles with the perception that Turkey is not supporting our Palestinian brothers and sisters."
Stating that Israel and its collaborators, who are uncomfortable with Turkey's stance against the ongoing massacres in Palestine and Gaza, aim to put Turkey and the government in their crosshairs, he made the following assessments:
"The best answer to these efforts, which no one with a fair and common-sense approach can accept, is the very struggle that Turkey is waging for Palestine. We would like to remind those who want to target Turkey and those who are knowingly or unknowingly becoming tools of this malicious campaign once again: Since October 7, Turkey has been the country that has displayed the most honorable and effective stance against Israel's genocide in every field, with both its state and its nation. The leader who shouts into the eyes of the whole world that Israel is a terrorist state, that it is committing one of the bloodiest genocide crimes history has ever seen in Gaza, and that the biggest problem in the Middle East is Israel itself, is our President, Mr. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan."
Emphasizing that Turkey has delivered approximately 42 thousand tons of humanitarian aid to Gaza to date, and that Turkey will implement with determination, as always, a series of measures that Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan announced would be taken against Israel—which is trying to block support and aid given to Palestine—and which were approved by President Erdoğan, Altun stated that many activities carried out by the Communications Directorate on a national and international scale, like all other institutions and organizations, are proof of this stance.
Fahrettin Altun noted the following:
"Since October 7, Turkey has exposed that international media organizations have played the 'three monkeys' in the face of Israel's blackmail and Israel's lies that attempt to hold the truth hostage. The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Information Ministers gathered in Istanbul upon Turkey's call shortly after the attacks began. The Extraordinary Meeting of OIC Information Ministers was held in Istanbul on February 24, 2024, hosted by our Communications Directorate, with the theme of 'Disinformation and Attacks by the Occupying Israeli Administration Against Journalists and Media Organizations in the Occupied Palestinian Territories.'
Our Center for Combating Disinformation has worked day and night, refuting Israel's perception operations and lies one by one with many different studies it has published in the witness of the international community. Many different information studies carried out by Anadolu Agency, TRT, and our other media organizations, along with our Communications Directorate, have also played an important role in revealing Israel's unimaginable cruelty.
Turkey has been one of the countries that has shown the most principled and humanitarian attitude regarding Palestine. Those who resort to all kinds of lies through all the conventional and new media tools at their disposal to smear this stance of Turkey should know that Turkey is always by the side of its Palestinian brothers and sisters, as it has been until now, and will continue to support its brothers and sisters no matter what the conditions are."
