Strategic trade move between Turkey and Belgium

Minister of Trade Ömer Bolat held a high-level meeting in Istanbul with Queen Mathilde of Belgium and her accompanying delegation, who arrived in Turkey at the invitation of AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. During the meeting, held as part of the "Belgian Economic Mission," the goals of deepening existing economic cooperation and increasing trade volume between the two countries were highlighted.

In a statement made via social media, Minister Bolat noted that trade relations with Belgium were addressed from a strategic perspective, stating, "We had the opportunity to evaluate our existing economic cooperation and trade relations with Belgium in their strategic dimension. We have reaffirmed our shared will once again."

CRITICAL ECONOMIC MISSION AFTER 14 YEARS

One of the most notable aspects of the meeting was that this was the first such comprehensive, high-level visit from Belgium to Turkey in 14 years. Minister Bolat emphasized the significance of this visit, which is the first large-scale economic mission organized since 2012, with the following words:

"It is extremely important and meaningful that the Belgian state has once again carried out such a high-level visit to our country with 420 business people from more than 200 Belgian companies. Political, diplomatic, economic, trade, and investment relations between both countries are strong and have great potential for development."

Also present at the meeting were Belgian Deputy Prime Minister Maxime Prévot, Minister of Foreign Trade Theo Francken, and high-level representatives of regional governments. The meeting is expected to open the door to new investment opportunities between the two countries in the coming period.
