Striking behind-the-scenes claims regarding internal opposition in CHP! 'They have started collecting signatures...'

Republican People's Party (CHP) Istanbul Deputy Oğuz Kaan Salıcı's call for a party congress, which began with his criticisms of the party leadership, continues to resonate.

According to a report by the Türkiye newspaper, known for its proximity to the government, the internal opposition, which criticizes CHP leader Özgür Özel and his team's 'normalization' policies, has taken action for a congress.

It has been claimed that dissidents within the CHP have launched a signature campaign for a congress on a website.

In the campaign text, which includes criticisms directed at Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB) Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, it is stated that a hierarchical order and internal party practices unseen in the 101-year history of the CHP have been implemented, and it is alleged that the party has been surrendered to the conscience of a single mayor.

The text, which includes allegations that CHP leader Özgür Özel made threats against the internal opposition during a closed-door meeting with deputies, refers to remarks that “paths will be parted with deputies who discuss the party on social media,” and claims that the party is under occupation and that Özel and his team have bowed to İmamoğlu.

It is alleged that the dissidents, who are said to oppose the management style of the CHP Headquarters and İBB Mayor İmamoğlu, emphasize that “the boss of the party from now on is neither the people nor the headquarters.”

According to what is being discussed in party circles, figures close to former CHP Chairman Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu criticized İmamoğlu's stance with the words, “It is not he who will decide on the congress, but the will of the delegates.” Stating that they will fight to dismantle the regime of pressure they claim is being created within the party, the dissidents said, “The delegates will definitely demand a congress. That congress will happen.”
