Striking claim regarding the 2 soldiers who were martyred in İskenderun: Were they poisoned?
According to journalist İsmail Saymaz, the "heatstroke" explanation for the deaths of two privates at the Naval Recruit Training Regiment in İskenderun, Hatay, is controversial. Hospital sources have raised the possibility of poisoning due to the severe internal bleeding, high cardiac enzymes, and coagulation disorders observed in the soldiers.
According to journalist İsmail Saymaz, the possibility of "poisoning" has been raised in the deaths of privates Hayrullah Halit Kahraman and Semih Erdoğan, who lost their lives on July 27 at the Naval Recruit Training Regiment Command in the İskenderun district of Hatay.
Speaking to Saymaz, İskenderun State Hospital staff stated that when the two soldiers were brought to the hospital, they were unconscious, bleeding severely from their mouths and noses, their cardiac enzymes were extremely high, and their coagulation factors were almost completely depleted. The medical staff indicated that such intense bleeding developing in such a short time could not be explained by heatstroke and that they were evaluating the possibility of a toxic substance.
Saymaz wrote the following:
"İskenderun State Hospital staff describe a different picture than the Ministry of National Defense. According to the staff, the two soldiers were not conscious when they were brought to the hospital. Severe bleeding began from their mouths and noses.
The staff explains:
'Cardiac enzymes, which we call troponin, were elevated. When the troponin level is 50-100, we admit the patient; when it is between 300-500, we call it a heart attack. In these children, it was in the 2000s. This data indicates the destruction of the heart muscle. The bleeding diathesis (coagulation) was very poor. Bleeding starts because coagulation factors are depleted. This condition developed in the soldiers. The normal value is 1. We check it when it is 2-3, and the patient is admitted when it is 10. In their case, it was 80. They passed away due to multi-organ failure.'
The two soldiers were martyred within 10 hours of being brought to the hospital. The staff does not find the heatstroke explanation plausible and argue the following:
'They claim the children were made to work in the sun for hours. These are not proven. They might have been given disciplinary training. There is such heat in İskenderun that we cannot even go outside,' they say.
Noting that the bleeding brings the possibility of poisoning to mind, they say:
'The level of bleeding was very high. What could cause this much bleeding might be a toxic substance. As far as we are concerned, no substance other than poison would cause this much bleeding in such a short time. They say it is due to dehydration, but that would not have an effect in such a short time, nor would it cause bleeding. The main problem is the bleeding.'
However, they remind that the autopsy and toxicology examination did not reveal any results of poisoning in the blood."
