Admitting to a secret journey from Istanbul to Edirne, Kurtoğlu confessed that he left Turkey in a vehicle with diplomatic plates. Following his escape, footage of the vehicle in which Kurtoğlu was hidden in the trunk was also captured by security cameras.
THE ESCAPE OF MEHMET KURTOĞLU, CAPTURED IN ROMANIA
The veil of secrecy surrounding the escape of Kurtoğlu, who was wanted as the perpetrator of numerous armed attacks and threats, has been lifted. Kurtoğlu, who fled abroad and was captured in Romania, was first handed over to Bulgaria and then deported to Turkey via the Kapıkule Border Gate. Kurtoğlu, who was taken into custody on January 10, explained the details of his escape in his statement to the police.

SECRET TRANSPORT FROM ISTANBUL TO EDIRNE
Kurtoğlu described his escape from Istanbul by saying, "I was brought to Edirne by a pirate taxi and stayed one night in an apartment hotel in the city center." Stating that he was taken to a car wash business in the Edirne New Industrial Site the next day, Kurtoğlu said that his escape continued after he was kept there for a while.
HE LEFT TURKEY IN A DIPLOMATIC SUV
According to Kurtoğlu's statement, in the final stage of his escape, he was secretly placed in the trunk of a vehicle with diplomatic plates belonging to the Consulate General of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam in Istanbul and taken across the border. It was stated that the vehicle crossed into Bulgaria via Kapıkule and subsequently reached Romania.

SECURITY CAMERAS EXAMINED ONE BY ONE
Following Kurtoğlu's statements, the Edirne Police Department's Anti-Migrant Smuggling Branch launched a large-scale investigation. Footage from the security cameras of the car wash station and the apartment hotel was placed under scrutiny. As a result of the examinations, it was determined that the vehicle used for the escape was a car with diplomatic plates belonging to the Consulate General of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam in Istanbul.

CONSTANT BORDER CROSSINGS DETECTED
As a result of the detailed technical investigation, it was determined that the diplomatic vehicle in question made multiple entries and exits between January 23 and February 1, crossing into Bulgaria via the Kapıkule Border Gate and into Greece via the Pazarkule Customs Gate.
