Striking February 6 post from Oğuzhan Uğur

Exactly 1 year has passed since the February 6 earthquakes centered in Kahramanmaraş.

YouTuber Oğuzhan Uğur made a striking post on his social media account on the anniversary of the earthquake disaster.

Uğur reacted to the events of the past year by saying, "That day was not only the day of the earthquake, but also the day of helplessness, injustice, arrogance, selfishness, and true evil in every sense."

Oğuzhan Uğur's statement is as follows:

"Exactly one year has passed since the disaster. Saying a year has passed actually feels meaningless; what has passed, sir? For instance, I am still stuck on that date… I don't even recognize the me living today. That day was not only the day of the earthquake, but also the day of helplessness, injustice, arrogance, selfishness, and true evil in every sense. If I started writing, it would be a novel, it would, but there is no need for you to read it. You know every page by heart, too. You can stay silent, but you cannot pretend you don't know.

We stopped thinking about how to live and started thinking about how and in what way we would die that day. None of us are the same as we were before; it is incomparable, but we didn't just have 11 provinces damaged that day, we had 81. They told me to say a few words to remind people…

How can a person remind others of what is not forgotten? How can one commemorate what has not passed? Unfortunately, the earthquake is not in my yesterday…

It is in my helpless today. It is in my tomorrow with the fear of 'could it happen to me too?' That is why I am in no mood to spout flowery literary sentences tonight.

It won't be over until the tears of those people dry, until each of them regains their warm home, their job, and their bread. It won't be over until the hearts of those seeking justice before the law and holding those responsible for the lives lost are cooled.

A year has passed… What has passed, sir? It hasn't even been three months since bodies were pulled from the rubble…

I wish mercy to those who lost their lives and patience to those left behind. If there is even a gram of possibility that I can lighten your burden, it is a vow of honor that I will strive as long as I live. I am also aware that I am not alone in this purpose."
