Striking statement from Japanese expert on the February 6 earthquakes! 'Even though it was announced as 7.4 magnitude...'
Making important statements on earthquake awareness, Moriwaki Yoshinori said that the tremors in Sındırgı could continue but do not pose a direct threat to Bursa. Touching upon the February 6 earthquakes centered in Kahramanmaraş, the expert stated, "Even though it was officially announced as 7.4 magnitude, I believe a stronger tremor of around 7.9 occurred. Earthquake data should be shared with the public in all its reality."
Organized under the slogan 'The Heart of Literature, Osmangazi', the Osmangazi Book Fair hosted many names from journalists to authors, as well as Japanese Earthquake Expert Moriwaki Yoshinori. First meeting with readers through his book "Moriwaki's Earthquake Guide", Yoshinori then made statements regarding the earthquake danger at the center of the agenda in Turkey. Listing the basic steps to be taken during an earthquake, the expert emphasized that creating a triangle of life and having a properly prepared earthquake bag are of vital importance.
"IT SHOULD BE A METAL WHISTLE, NOT PLASTIC"
Providing information about the materials that should be in an earthquake bag, Moriwaki Yoshinori pointed out that plastic whistles might be insufficient in critical moments, saying, "When you are trapped under rubble for days and water runs out, a person struggles even to breathe. In those moments, a plastic whistle becomes useless. A metal whistle, however, can make a sound even by hitting it against a hard surface."

Stating that high-energy foods must be included in the bag, Yoshinori conveyed that the Japanese see earthquake preparedness not as a routine, but as a way of life. Saying that keeping water in easily accessible areas in homes is also critical, he used the expression, "Things that seem small can save lives."
ACTIVITY IN SINDIRGI MAY CONTINUE
While the question "Is a major earthquake expected in Bursa?" has come to the fore due to the frequent earthquakes occurring in Sındırgı and its surroundings in recent days, it is known that 200-300 aftershocks have been recorded in the region. Moriwaki Yoshinori stated that this activity could continue for a while longer. However, noting that the tremors in Sındırgı do not pose a direct threat to Bursa, the expert said, "Before the major earthquake in Kahramanmaraş, there had not been a shaking earthquake in that region for many years. For this reason, the 2023 earthquake was very destructive. Even though it was officially announced as 7.4 magnitude, I believe a stronger tremor of around 7.9 occurred. Earthquake data should be shared with the public in all its reality."
