Suicide attempt at Erenköy Marmaray station: Services disrupted
A suicide attempt at the Erenköy Marmaray Station in Kadıköy has caused delays in train services. Authorities have called on citizens to use alternative transportation.
A person attempted suicide by jumping onto the tracks at the Erenköy Marmaray Station on the Anatolian side of Istanbul this afternoon around 15:30. The incident marks another addition to similar cases recently experienced on the Marmaray line. Following the incident, disruptions occurred in train services, and passengers turned to alternative transportation methods due to the congestion.
Shortly after the distressing event, the Marmaray operator made a statement on the social media platform X, saying, "Dear Passengers, due to a distressing incident at the Erenköy station, single-line operations are being conducted, and there are delays in #Marmaray services."
The statement also reminded passengers to consider different transportation alternatives to avoid inconvenience. Security forces and medical teams responded quickly to the area around the station.
Suicide attempts on the Marmaray line are showing an increase. Just eight days ago, on June 20, a similar incident occurred at the Suadiye Station, which also caused temporary disruptions to services at that time.
Authorities stated that security measures would be increased to prevent similar incidents in public transportation. Citizens using public transport in Istanbul can occasionally experience grievances due to service disruptions caused by such events.
