SunExpress flight makes emergency landing in Diyarbakır after failing to land in Van
A SunExpress flight traveling from Antalya to Van was diverted to Diyarbakır Airport due to an unidentified object detected in the skies over Van. Following a comprehensive search, the police announced that no such object was found. The aircraft landed safely in Van after security measures were taken.
A passenger plane that took off from Antalya at 5:05 PM yesterday evening to travel to Van was diverted to Diyarbakır after an unidentified object was detected in the air while it was preparing to land at Van Ferit Melen Airport.
Following instructions from the control tower, the plane landed at Diyarbakır Airport instead of Van Ferit Melen Airport, and passengers were informed about the situation by cabin crew.
STATEMENT FROM THE POLICE
Following the incident, teams from the Van Police Department's Aviation Branch conducted a detailed scan of the airspace using unmanned aerial vehicles to address a potential threat. It was learned that no object was found during the extensive search.
PLANE TOOK OFF AGAIN FOR VAN
The SunExpress Antalya-Van flight waited at the airport after its emergency landing in Diyarbakır, remaining on standby to take off again once landing clearance was granted.
After all necessary precautions were taken for the safety of the passengers and flight crew, the plane waited at the airport. Once flight clearance was issued, the plane took off from Diyarbakır and landed safely at Van Ferit Melen Airport at approximately 10:10 PM.
