Support for Karabük University from NGOs

Several non-governmental organizations (NGOs) have issued a statement of support for Karabük University (KBÜ), which recently came to the fore following allegations on social media that HIV and HPV positive cases had increased due to relationships between African and Turkish students studying at the university in the city.

Support for Karabük University from NGOs

A joint statement was issued by the Altınsafran International Student Association, the Karabük Imam Hatip Graduates Association, the Ilim Yayma Society Karabük Branch, Genç Memur-Sen, the Sultan Education, Culture and Solidarity Foundation, the Turkey Youth Foundation (TÜGVA) Karabük Branch, and the Safranbolu Yağmur Solidarity Association.

In the statement, it was noted that as non-governmental organizations engaged in social and cultural activities across Turkey, it became necessary to take a joint stance against the misleading news reports that have appeared in the media recently.

The statement, which conveyed the belief that the baseless accusations made against Karabük University and other educational institutions aim to disrupt social peace, said, "We support the cooperation and solidarity efforts that Turkey has demonstrated in trade, defense, education, and culture in Africa and other regions.

Although some circles are trying to hinder the high momentum our country has achieved in these areas compared to Europe and other global authorities, we will maintain our firm stance against such perception operations.

We believe that all people are born equal and possess equal rights. Racism, discrimination, and hate crimes are behaviors that are incompatible with the fundamental values of our society and are never acceptable. We emphasize that we will not allow malicious groups, who attempt to provoke our people by conducting slander and smear campaigns through such concepts, to succeed.

"WE WOULD LIKE TO UNDERLINE THE PEACEFUL ENVIRONMENT"

The recent statements by the Karabük Provincial Health Directorate and Karabük University clearly demonstrate that there has been no unusual increase in applications to health institutions in our city.

At the same time, we would like to underline the security of Karabük and the peaceful environment that allows our students to pursue their education. The mission of our universities to host distinguished students from all over the world and teach them Turkish and Turkish culture demonstrates the cultural richness and hospitality of our country.

These students return to their own countries as cultural ambassadors of Turkey after completing their education. Finally, we would like to respectfully remind the public that the baseless allegations made about our students and the people of Karabük harm our social peace and that such claims should not be given any credence," the statement concluded.
