Surprising statement from Muharrem İnce: 'What is necessary is to fortify the third way'

Memleket Party Chairman Muharrem İnce, in a statement made via social media, criticized the current political polarization in Turkey, saying, "It is necessary to extract the country from this two-pole political understanding very quickly. What is necessary for this is to fortify the third way."

In his statement, İnce noted that politics has become a tool for stubbornness rather than a platform for differences of opinion, and that voters are forced to vote for sides they do not want. Emphasizing that this situation causes politics to be trapped in two poles, İnce stated, "This path, where honest people from all walks of life will come together, will quickly lead the country out of the impasse it is in; it will restore trust in justice, the state, and its institutions."

These remarks drew attention because they contradict İnce's previous promises of support for Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu and the Republican People's Party (CHP). In his speech at the rally held in Saraçhane on March 22, İnce had stated that he would work with all his might to ensure that the CHP's young chairman would emerge as the leading party again, and that he had given his word on this matter.

İnce's latest statements have led to different interpretations in political circles and among the public. While some segments evaluate these statements as a change in İnce's political stance, others argue that the search for a third way could create a new alternative in Turkish politics.

This move by İnce has brought the debates on political polarization in Turkey back to the agenda. It is a matter of curiosity how much support İnce's third-way proposal will find in the coming days.
