Suspect stepmother in Hande Çinkitaş murder case filmed 25 years later
A new development has occurred in the case of 12-year-old Hande Çinkitaş, who was brutally murdered in Kadıköy, Istanbul, in 2001. The program "Neler Oluyor Hayatta" has located stepmother Şehnaz Çinkitaş—whom the father pointed to as a suspect before his arrest—for the first time in years. Çinkitaş, who acted aggressively upon realizing she was being filmed, was also the subject of striking claims by her neighbors: "She constantly slanders people, they are prone to violence."
The mystery continues to unravel in the case of Hande Çinkitaş, who was killed 23 years ago in Kadıköy, Istanbul, after being struck in the head with a hammer and having her throat slit. The program "Neler Oluyor Hayatta," broadcast on Kanal D, filmed stepmother Şehnaz Çinkitaş—one of the prime suspects in this murder that chilled Turkey to the bone—in her hiding place 25 years later. The stepmother's tense and insult-laden behavior in response to questions from Program Coordinator Reyhan Şan Tunaboylu was captured on camera.
The most significant detail changing the course of the process was the interview given by father Nezih Çinkitaş one day before his arrest, whose life sentence was recently upheld by the Court of Cassation. In that interview, father Çinkitaş targeted his wife, stating, "Ninety percent, Şehnaz is involved in this."
SUSPECT STEPMOTHER HURLS INSULTS AND THREATS AT THE TEAM
Upon being asked by Reyhan Şan Tunaboylu, "You are one of the prime suspects in this case, who is the killer?" Şehnaz Çinkitaş panicked, first grabbing her phone to call the police, and then attempting to attack the team while hurling insults. Defending herself by saying, "Nobody is accusing me, the judiciary has made its decision," Çinkitaş threatened the program team by saying, "You will go to jail." The stepmother's aggressive behavior as she attempted to physically intervene against the calm team did not go unnoticed.
TERRIFYING CLAIMS FROM NEIGHBORS: EVERYONE IS AFRAID OF HER
Neighborhood residents speaking at the scene made chilling statements about Şehnaz Çinkitaş and her son Egemen. One neighbor said, "She is a very aggressive person, she constantly causes problems. I definitely think the incident happened with her knowledge. Her son Egemen also physically assaulted our upstairs neighbor; they are very prone to violence." Another resident expressed their unease, saying, "You cannot even walk within 10 meters of her, she is constantly slandering people. We are afraid of her."
THEY RESPONDED TO QUESTIONS WITH LAUGHTER
The nonchalance of Şehnaz Çinkitaş and her son Egemen, who maintained their behavior even in the presence of police teams arriving at the scene, was astonishing. While Egemen Çinkitaş left the question "Did your father kill your sister?" unanswered with a smile, the laughter that mother Şehnaz Çinkitaş let out while requesting a restraining order against the team left even the police officers bewildered. These latest images of the stepmother have caused a major stir in public opinion regarding the case, which is being pursued to shed light on the dark points of the 23-year-old mystery.
