Suspect who attacked CHP Keçiören district office arrested
M.G., who was detained following the attack on the CHP Keçiören District Presidency building in Ankara, has been arrested on charges of "armed threat" and "damaging public buildings."
Following the attack on the building housing the Republican People's Party (CHP) District Presidency in Ankara's Keçiören district, M.G., identified as the perpetrator, was apprehended and taken into custody by police teams. After completing his interrogation at the police station, M.G. was referred to the courthouse, where he underwent questioning by the prosecutor's office.
The prosecutor's office requested that the suspect be arrested on charges of "damaging buildings, facilities, or property belonging to political parties or professional organizations" and "armed threat," and referred the suspect to the on-duty criminal judgeship of peace.
When brought before the judge, the suspect M.G. refrained from giving a statement, while his lawyer claimed that his client had a forensic medical report regarding schizophrenia and requested that he be referred to a health institution. However, the court, citing the video recordings and complainant statements present in the file, decided to arrest the suspect on the grounds that there was "strong suspicion of a crime."
The incident occurred on April 27 at the CHP Keçiören District Presidency. Following the attack, the party's Ankara Provincial Presidency issued a statement, using the phrase, "We know this dark mentality and the will behind it very well."
