Swept away by waves on November 27: Bodies recovered

Trabzon’s Beşikdüzü district, near the harbor, on the evening of November 26, Beşikdüzü IMKB Science High School students Emir Berke Aşık (16) and Uğurcan Korkmaz (16) were swept into the sea by massive waves while at the harbor to take photos during a storm. Search operations were launched in the area by the DEGAK Special Team-02 Command, affiliated with the Coast Guard Eastern Black Sea Group Command, along with sea police, AFAD, and fire department teams. The search efforts, which were difficult to conduct due to weather conditions and currents in the sea, continued into their fourth day. While teams from neighboring provinces supported the search efforts, which were expanded to include approximately 80 people, AFAD teams conducted scanning operations at sea using AI-based human detection sonar.

Yesterday, a jacket belonging to one of the students, Emir Berke Aşık (16), was found washed ashore 2 km from where they fell into the sea, containing his mobile phone, a pen, and money. Today, the body of one of the two high school students was found by teams searching offshore near the area and brought to the shore. The student whose body was recovered was identified as Uğurcan Korkmaz, who was registered in the Torul district of Gümüşhane.

BODY OF THE OTHER YOUTH ALSO RECOVERED

The body of the second of the two high school students who went missing after being swept away by waves on November 27 in Beşikdüzü, a district on the Black Sea coast of Trabzon, has also been recovered.
