Syrian Presidency: Assad is at his post in Damascus
The Syrian Presidency Office has reported that Bashar al-Assad remains at his post in the capital, Damascus, despite the advance of opposition forces.
As opposition forces advance toward the capital, Damascus, claims that President Bashar al-Assad has left the capital have been denied. In a statement issued by the Syrian Presidency Office, it was reported that Assad is at his post in Damascus.
The statement said, "We condemn the rumors and false reports regarding President Bashar al-Assad leaving Damascus. Assad is carrying out his national and constitutional duties from the capital."
The Syrian state news agency also reported that Assad continues to remain in Damascus.
Meanwhile, as clashes continue in the north of the strategically important city of Homs, the Assad regime has sent reinforcements to the region.
