Talent manager Ayşe Barım to appear in court today! Facing up to 30 years in prison

Talent manager Ayşe Barım, who faces charges of "aiding in the attempt to overthrow the Government of the Republic of Turkey" during the Gezi Park protests, will appear before a judge for the first time. The case will be heard today at the Istanbul 26th High Criminal Court.

Barım was arrested on January 27 after being detained on the grounds that she played a role in coordinating the protests. The indictment prepared by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office and accepted by the court demands a prison sentence of 22 years and 6 months to 30 years for Barım.

According to the allegations in the prosecutor's file, it is claimed that Barım "organized artists during the Gezi process, directed public opinion through the media, and contributed to the organization of the protests."

IN PRISON WITH SERIOUS HEALTH PROBLEMS

Ayşe Barım, who suffers from 9 separate health problems, primarily involving her heart and brain, is facing a life-threatening health situation in prison. It has been reported that she has fainted multiple times over the past 6 months.

Her lawyers filed two separate release applications on May 20 and May 30, citing her health condition. However, the court rejected these requests. For Barım, who fainted in her cell again on June 5, her lawyers applied to the court on June 11, requesting an emergency release on the grounds of "risk of sudden death." However, this request was also not accepted.

The court decided to refer Barım to Başakşehir Çam and Sakura City Hospital for a detailed examination of her condition. A health report prepared on July 2 by a board of 9 specialist physicians revealed that Barım's continued imprisonment poses a serious threat to her life. The report stated that there is a risk of sudden death if a permanent pacemaker is not implanted; it also noted that despite two previously placed stents in her brain, a new aneurysm has formed, and this bubble cannot currently be intervened upon due to its location. It was stated that if it ruptures, there is a risk of brain hemorrhage, paralysis, or death.

Following this critical report, her lawyers applied to the court once again, requesting a release decision without waiting for the Forensic Medicine Institute report. The petition pointed out that if a release is not granted, any potential fatal outcomes would be the responsibility of the prison administration and the court.
