Taxi driver from Hatay reacts to Erdoğan: Who are you to threaten us?
As the first anniversary of the February 6 earthquakes centered in Kahramanmaraş approaches, the people of Hatay have reacted to the statements made by President Erdoğan yesterday.
President and AKP Chairman Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's remarks, "If the central government and local government do not work hand in hand, nothing comes to that city; did anything come to Hatay?" were met with a response from a taxi driver and earthquake survivor in the region, who said, "Who are you to threaten us?"
In his speech yesterday, President Erdoğan intimidated the people of Hatay on the first anniversary of the February 6 Kahramanmaraş-centered earthquakes, stating, "If the central government and local government do not work hand in hand, if they are not in solidarity, nothing will come to that city. Did anything come to Hatay? Currently, Hatay has been left abandoned."
A citizen, who stated that no aid reached Hatay throughout the earthquake disaster, reacted to Erdoğan's words during a Halk TV broadcast.
"NO AID ARRIVED IN HATAY FOR A WEEK"
The citizen said the following:
"I was working as a taxi driver for a hotel in Antakya. After the earthquake, we helped our people as much as we could. We distinguish between the Republic of Turkey, our state, and the government, but we do not distinguish the government. Governments come and go; they are all individuals, and our government did not come here in any way for 4-5 days. They also blocked the aid that was coming, and instead of sending the trucks to the center of Antakya, they sent them elsewhere. The aid coming from Azerbaijan did not reach Hatay in any way. They continued on the Antep road, and no aid arrived in Hatay for a week. Our people were groaning in agony here, screaming."
"WHO ARE YOU TO THREATEN US?"
Yesterday, our President came to our Antakya, but he threatened the people of Hatay. He is saying that if you do not vote for me, you will not receive any services. Who are you to threaten us in this way? Whether we vote for you or not, we are people who pay taxes to the Republic of Turkey. We pay our taxes down to the last penny, but we do not receive our rights. It was said that there would be no route requirements for earthquake survivors, whether they are taxi tradesmen or minibus tradesmen, but the Hatay Metropolitan Municipality is forcing us into routes."
