Taxi driver in Diyarbakır defrauded of 340,000 TL by passenger

Serdar Uluk (60), a taxi driver in Diyarbakır, fell victim to fraud by a passenger he picked up to transport to Şanlıurfa. The unidentified male suspect claimed he had asked for Uluk's IBAN number and had accidentally sent money to Uluk's account instead of his wife's. Believing the claim, Uluk was persuaded to provide his banking password. The suspect then requested the driver's mobile phone under the pretext that his own phone was low on battery, and took the device for a while.

During this time, the suspect gained access to Uluk's banking application and, within a short period, transferred 50,000 TL from Uluk's account, 120,000 TL from his overdraft account, and 20,000 TL from another account to different accounts. Furthermore, he took out a 150,000 TL loan in Uluk's name, completely emptying his account. It was learned that the total loss amounted to 340,000 TL.

It was stated that upon arriving in Şanlıurfa, the suspect disappeared, claiming he was going to withdraw money from a bank.

The victim, Serdar Uluk, recounted the events as follows: “Because I was driving, I didn't know what he was doing. He learned my banking password and took a total of 340,000 TL from my account. When we got to Şanlıurfa, he said he was going to withdraw money from the bank and left. He said his name was Eyüp, but at the police station, I learned it was M.A. I want this person to be arrested as soon as possible. I want my grievance addressed; I took out an extra loan to pay for this money and I am paying back 36,000 TL every month.”

Police teams have launched a comprehensive investigation into the incident. Efforts are underway to apprehend the suspect, utilizing security camera footage as well. It was stated that Serdar Uluk has requested support from the authorities to resolve his grievance.
