TBB's Damascus visit cancelled, reaction from İmamoğlu! 'Who intervened?'

Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu made statements to journalists at the Game Development Center (OGEM).

İmamoğlu, who is also the President of the Union of Municipalities of Türkiye (TBB), had stated in his remarks the previous day that they would play an active role in the reconstruction of Syria and that they would go to Damascus as the TBB.

"REQUESTED TO COME AFTER THE PRESIDENT"

Explaining that the visit in question was cancelled by the Damascus Governorate, İmamoğlu said, “It was requested that we come after President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's visit.”

"WHY WAS IT CANCELLED 6 HOURS LATER?"

Reacting to the cancellation of the visit, İmamoğlu asked, “Why was the appointment cancelled 6 hours later, who intervened?”

İmamoğlu stated, “Even if our visit is blocked, we are determined to provide whatever support we can to our neighbor with good intentions at the highest level.”

WHAT HAPPENED?

IMM and TBB President Ekrem İmamoğlu had announced on the Arena program hosted by Uğur Dündar on Sözcü TV that they would go to Damascus as the TBB for the reconstruction of Syria.

İmamoğlu had said the following regarding the Damascus visit:

“We have made an application as the Union of Municipalities of Türkiye, especially for the reconstruction of Syria. At the point we have reached today, we have been accepted by the Damascus Governorate through initiatives made by the Damascus Embassy. Our technical and bureaucratic team will go there very soon. We want to contribute to the establishment of cities in Syria where people of every faith and every origin, whether Sunni, Shia, Alawite, Jewish, or Christian, can find themselves and receive services equally. As cities, we must take initiative in the process of the existence of a Syria where every segment can be represented in a democratic state of law.”
