TEMA volunteer and retired teacher Ayten Yakut released

A total of 225 people were detained in operations conducted by the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office ahead of the NATO Summit. Among those detained were volunteers from the TEMA Foundation, known for its environmental activism. Along with TEMA Ankara Provincial Representative Nevzat Özer, 42 TEMA volunteers from various provinces were subjected to judicial proceedings on grounds of "membership in the TKP/ML terrorist organization" and intelligence reports concerning them.

Within the scope of this investigation, 29 of the individuals referred to court were arrested, while 13 volunteers were released under house arrest and judicial control conditions.

It was known that 75-year-old retired teacher Ayten Yakut was among those arrested and that she was long recognized for her civil society work. With Yakut's release, the number of TEMA volunteers remaining in custody has dropped to 28. Meanwhile, Ayten Yakut's husband had also served as a prosecutor for a period before his passing.

No official statement has yet been made by the competent authorities or civil society organizations regarding the release of Ayten Yakut. It has been learned that judicial processes regarding the investigation are ongoing.
