Temperature record across Turkey: Expected to reach 50 degrees
The scorching heatwave affecting Europe has begun to make its impact felt in Turkey as well. In some regions of the country, the heat index is expected to reach as high as 50 degrees.
According to the latest assessments by meteorologists, extreme heat arriving in Turkey from Europe as of June 29 has begun to affect the entire country. In many cities, particularly in the Mediterranean and Southeastern Anatolia regions, air temperatures measured in the shade are expected to remain above 40 degrees, with the heat index projected to reach 50 degrees due to high humidity. Consequently, warnings have been issued for the elderly and those with chronic illnesses, who are at health risk, to avoid going outside during the hottest hours of the day.
HUMIDITY IN ISTANBUL TO BE FELT DESPITE THE POYRAZ WIND
In Istanbul, it is stated that the northern poyraz winds, which bring coolness to the city, will be effective throughout the week. However, it is noted that this will not be enough to sufficiently mitigate the rising temperatures. With the increase in humidity levels, it was stated that the heat index in the city will reach 34 degrees and that the entire city will be subjected to stifling weather even during the night hours. Temperature values are not expected to drop below 30 degrees throughout the week.
STRONG WINDS, NO PRECIPITATION
According to the meteorological service, the weather across Turkey will be mostly clear and partly cloudy. While temperatures in the northern and northeastern regions are expected to rise by 2 to 4 degrees, there will be no significant change in other parts of the country. The wind will generally blow from the north and northeast, light to occasionally moderate. However, it was reported that wind speeds could reach 40-60 kilometers per hour in the southwest of the Marmara region and the North Aegean coasts. Citizens were urged to be careful and cautious against potential adverse conditions.
