Testimonies of suspects who beat a police officer at TÜVTÜRK revealed! 'I didn't do anything to kill him'
The testimonies of the suspects have been obtained regarding the death of police officer Melih Okan Keskin, who passed away after being beaten at an Ankara vehicle inspection station.
Police officer Melih Okan Keskin (44), who served in Ankara, was beaten following an argument with employees at the station where he had taken his vehicle for inspection.
Keskin, who suffered a brain hemorrhage, passed away at the hospital where he was taken. As part of the investigation launched by the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, suspects S.A., M.Y., and Y.K. were brought to the Ankara Courthouse after their procedures at the police station. Among the suspects referred to the duty court, S.A. and M.Y. were arrested, while Y.K. was released under judicial control measures.
"I PUNCHED HIM THINKING THE PERSON WOULD ATTACK ME"
Suspect S.A., whose testimony at the duty court was revealed, said, "After the argument broke out, I honked the horn 2-3 times while taking the car out. As I was getting out of the vehicle, the person cursed at me with profanity, saying, 'Are you going to run me over?' I punched him thinking the person would attack me."
Suspect M.Y. stated, "I have been working as an inspection technician at the vehicle inspection station for 8 years. I started my shift at around 08.30 that day. While my shift was ongoing on the day of the incident, near the end of the shift in the evening, at a time I don't remember, while I was in the vehicle inspection area, I heard shouting from the garden outside and inside the vehicle inspection station. I heard shouts like 'Run, they are going to kill a man,' 'They are attacking a woman.'"
"I DID NOT DO ANYTHING TO KILL HIM"
Claiming that he heard profanity, M.Y. stated, "I do not know this person; I saw him for the first time. My colleagues walked towards the man who was cursing. In the meantime, I approached the man from the right of my friends and the left of the man at an average speed, neither walking nor running, and pushed him. After I pushed him, I cannot estimate exactly how many people my friends were; we were a crowd. With the excitement of the incident, I don't remember who fought with whom among my colleagues, or who pushed whom. I have never seen the deceased Melih Okan Keskin before, I do not know him. I learned that the person died from you officials. On the day of the incident, I did not do anything to harm or kill him; I do not know why he died. I definitely did not beat Melih Okan Keskin."
Suspect Y.K. claimed that there was an argument and insults on the day of the incident, but that he was never involved in the event.
WHAT HAPPENED?
The incident occurred on February 2 at the vehicle inspection station in the Yenimahalle district of Ankara. According to the information obtained, police officer Melih Okan Keskin was told that his vehicle could not pass the inspection because its parking light was not working. Keskin, who checked his car, stated that he had not encountered such a malfunction. An argument broke out between Keskin and the employees who stated that they could not take the vehicle for inspection again. Keskin, who was beaten by a group, fell ill and went to the hospital on his own. After the initial examination, it was determined that Keskin, who was referred to another hospital, had a brain shift and hemorrhage. Keskin, who fell ill again after the surgery, passed away on February 5 despite all interventions. As part of the investigation launched by the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office regarding the incident, suspects S.A., M.Y., and Y.K. were referred to the Ankara Courthouse after their procedures at the police station. Among the suspects who were referred to the duty court with a request for arrest after their statements to the prosecutor's office, S.A. and M.Y. were arrested, while Y.K. was released under judicial control measures.
