The General Directorate of Meteorology has announced that the cold wave currently affecting the country will continue on Wednesday, December 31. While a heavy snowfall warning has been issued for 31 provinces in the latest assessments, snow depth is expected to exceed 20 centimeters in some regions. According to the latest weather forecast report published by the General Directorate of Meteorology, the cold wave affecting Turkey will continue to be felt across the country tomorrow. It was reported that snowfall will be effective in many regions starting from the early hours of the day.

HEAVY SNOW WARNING FOR 31 PROVINCES

The MGM announced that heavy snowfall is expected in 31 provinces in line with the assessments made. It was stated that the precipitation will increase in intensity, especially starting from the morning hours, and that heavy snow will be seen in some regions.

HEAVY SNOW EXPECTED IN SOUTHEASTERN ANATOLIA

According to the warning issued by Meteorology for the Southeastern Anatolia Region, heavy snowfall is expected in Adıyaman, Gaziantep, Kilis, Diyarbakır, and Şanlıurfa starting from Wednesday morning. After noon, it is estimated that snowfall will be locally heavy in Mardin, Batman, and Siirt.

ATTENTION DRAWN TO TRANSPORTATION AND ICING RISKS

With the heavy snowfall, warnings were issued regarding potential disruptions in transportation, icing, frost events, and blizzards in high-altitude areas. Authorities have urged citizens to be cautious.

SNOW WILL ALSO INCREASE IN INTENSITY IN THE WESTERN BLACK SEA

Meteorology reported that heavy snowfall will also be seen in Düzce, Zonguldak, and Bartın, as well as in the high-altitude areas of Kastamonu. The statement indicated that with the drop in air temperatures, snowfall will also strengthen in coastal areas starting from Wednesday evening.

In the MGM statement, it was emphasized that one should be careful against the risk of avalanches and landslides on steep slopes with high snow cover, in addition to icing and frost events accompanying the heavy snowfall.

HIGH-ALTITUDE AREAS IN CENTRAL ANATOLIA WILL BE COVERED IN WHITE

Heavy snowfall is also expected in the Central Anatolia Region. It was reported that snowfall will be effective in the high-altitude areas of southern Karaman, eastern Yozgat, the highlands of Kayseri and Niğde, and the surroundings of Tokat and Sivas, especially in Konya.

SNOW MAY EXCEED 20 CENTIMETERS IN EASTERN ANATOLIA

In the warning issued for the Eastern Anatolia Region, it was stated that heavy snowfall is expected on Wednesday and Thursday in Malatya, Elazığ, Tunceli, Erzincan, Bingöl, southern Erzurum, Ağrı, Van, Muş, Bitlis, Şırnak, and Hakkari.

SNOW IS COMING TO 19 DISTRICTS

Snow is expected in most districts of Istanbul this evening. The Istanbul Governorship, in line with the assessments of the General Directorate of Meteorology, announced that sleet and snowfall are expected starting from the evening hours in Başakşehir, Beylikdüzü, Beşiktaş, Çatalca, Esenler, Esenyurt, Eyüp, Gaziosmanpaşa, Kağıthane, Sultangazi, Ataşehir, Çekmeköy, Sancaktepe, Sultanbeyli, Ümraniye, Sarıyer, Arnavutköy, Beykoz, and Şile.
